The Aesthetics Bar is a medical spa that offers a “less is more” approach to clients’ needs. Wendy Thorlakson Svehlak is a former film producer and entrepreneur. She took time off to raise her daughter, then started working alongside her husband, Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Steven Svehlak, MD, who also owns Sunset Cosmetic Surgery. The Aesthetics Bar offers a complete medical grade skin care line, along with services such as Botox, dermal fillers, microneedling, stem cell and peptide therapy including GLP-1s.
When did you start your business?
We built The Aesthetics Bar during COVID-19 and have been in business for five years. We wanted to open a local spa after hearing friends complain about not wanting to leave the South Bay bubble for doctor-administered Botox services. It took a few years to develop and refine the concept, but Manhattan Marketplace provided all the conven-iences our clients were looking for. We made it pretty and fun with plenty of free parking
What is your current passion project?
I am currently developing an “I’ll Have What She’s Having” wellness program. I am working very closely with Dr. Steve and stem cell expert Stacy Wright, RN, to create individual wellness packages. The program is for people who want to feel great from the inside out. As we age, our natural peptide production slows and we may not feel our best. The program will be tailored to individual needs, such as aesthetics, hair restoration, skin renewal, weight health and overall well-being.
What keeps you going on difficult days?
Sometimes we have patients who come in deflated and near tears. Within an hour, our experts make a huge difference. People hug us and thank us for changing their life. The changes may be small, but they are always exactly what the patient wants, which boosts their confidence. When they look amazing, they feel amazing! Best days ever!
How long have you lived in the South Bay?
I am a native California girl. I moved to Hermosa Beach in my early 20s and then lived in Manhattan Beach in my 30s. Dr. Steve and I have a teenage daughter, Genevieve, and we currently live in Playa del Rey. I have really covered all areas of the South Bay. I LOVE them all!
