Gino Stumpo is a financial advisor, portfolio manager and managing director of wealth management at Stumpo Sikorski Wealth Management at UBS Financial Services Inc. With 25 years of industry experience, his career has focused on serving a diverse range of clients, including high net worth individuals, first responders, associations and more. Gino and his team focus on personalized strategies to enhance clients’ financial well-being, specializing in comprehensive investments and retirement planning.

How did you fall in love with the industry?

I developed a passion for the finance industry during my college years as a finance major. After joining the finance club on campus, meeting guest speakers and peers and learning about the industry, my interest in finance transformed into a passion. I later secured an internship at Salomon Smith Barney, a pivotal move that launched my career. After earning my bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in investments, I began my career at PaineWebber, which was later acquired by UBS Financial Services Inc. Throughout this journey, my fascination with the industry has only grown, and I find new reasons to love what I do every day.

Why did you pursue a career in finance?

My father spent decades working as an engineer before he was laid off in the early 1990s. To make ends meet, he found a part-time job at a hospital to support our family. Witnessing his challenges as he later faced retirement motivated me to pursue a career in wealth management. It inspired me to learn how to help others secure their benefits and transition to the next stage of their lives. I am incredibly proud of the work I do.

What makes you stand out in your industry?

In a world dominated by digital interactions, I believe in the power of in-person meetings and the value of human connection when discussing a client’s financial portfolio. My approach goes beyond numbers; it’s about understanding a client’s lifestyle, dreams and aspirations to align them with their financial goals.

What is a unique feature of your practice?

Thanks to the dedicated efforts of my fellow financial advisor Mark Sikorski, myself and our team, we have built a profound and lasting connection with first responders nationwide. We believe Mark’s previous experience as a police officer in the U.S. Air Force and the Los Angeles Police Department brings invaluable insights and trust to our team. We maintain lasting relationships with first responders by managing their financial portfolios, pensions and other benefits.

What is your go-to piece of advice for navigating tricky financial situations?

Navigating a volatile market requires the expertise of seasoned financial advisors who have managed portfolio risk, particularly through multiple recessions. An asset allocation policy can minimize risk during severe market movements, and a professional advisor can help position investments to weather financial storms.

Tell us something about yourself that others may not know.

For the past two years, I have practiced Brazilian jiu-jitsu and competed in several tournaments. I also find joy in volunteering with special needs children through my church and sponsoring local charities to give back to my community. I live in Newport Coast with my wife, Ana; our three children, Lucca, Nicco and Gianna; and our lovable Goldendoodle dog, Bentley.
