Inside the Office
Renee: I started working for Dr. Steve when I was 15 years old. I have loved every step of the way—from working in the front office in high school to assisting on weekends throughout college and ending in hygiene. Dr. Michelle and I have worked together since we were teenagers, and it is great to continue to work together as dentist and hygienist!
Outside the Office
Kathy: My commitment and dedication to my profession do not stop when the patient leaves the dental chair. I remain a resource and advocate to the community by helping people understand how their daily lifestyle choices—including brushing, flossing and nutrition—can have a profound impact on their overall oral and systemic health. I also attend yearly seminars and dental conventions to stay informed on the most recent research, technological advances and evidence-based practices.
Top Tips
Renee: A water pick is beneficial to any routine—even more so as we age and our teeth shift, our hand dexterity declines and we receive more restorative treatment.
Kathy: Flossing reaches where a toothbrush can’t—between teeth and under the gumline—removing plaque that leads to gum disease and decay. It’s a simple step with a big impact, even though it’s often the most difficult habit for patients to start and maintain.
Choosing Consistency
Kathy: Sometimes people try to take on too many goals at once. Consistency is not about perfection; it is about focusing on the repetition of small, sustainable steps in the hopes of leading to long-term adherence. Especially as we age, our teeth and gums need extra support. There is usually an increased risk of gum disease, root decay and dry mouth caused by medication side effects. Choosing to remain consistent with regular dental visits and home care can set you up for your best dental health.
Patient Relationships
Renee: The most rewarding part of my job is the relationships I build with patients. While I love helping people improve their oral health, patient interaction is what makes my workdays so enjoyable. Getting to know people throughout the years and being with them through different phases of life is special, and each interaction is meaningful to me.
Family Ties
Kathy: My family is truly the center of my life. My son, Zachary, is such a happy, friendly ball of energy! Watching him grow and thrive, even with the little things, has brought so much joy. I’m endlessly grateful for my supportive husband and parents, who shaped who I am. After losing my sister to breast cancer in 2022, I strive to honor her by living with kindness, love and compassion—and by cherishing the people who matter most.
Renee: Family is my top priority! Living in close proximity allows siblings, parents, nieces and nephews to get together every Sunday for dinner, and it is something I look forward to every week.
South Bay Vibes
Renee: I love the balance living and working in the South Bay brings. It has the excitement of Los Angeles mixed with the relaxed, easygoing beach vibes.
Kathy: The South Bay offers a unique and relaxed pace of life full of opportunity—a setting where you feel grounded and connected to the people that make up the community.
