RockIt Body Pilates in 2019
A Brief History
Judie Aronson opened RockIt Body in 2009. I was a student and then a teacher. I eventually bought the business in 2019. The milestones I’m proudest of over the years are the ones we made ourselves: a proprietary patented reformer, signature class formats and a third studio on the way.
Overcoming Obstacles
We placed our first Southbay ad in the Women’s Issue in 2020— fitting timing for a brand built around strong women, though it was the hardest moment to be a brand-new owner. COVID-19 had recently shut the world down and hit fitness especially hard. When we came out the other side, we needed the South Bay to know who we were, so we turned to a magazine we knew and respected.
Professional Values
From day one, growth was nonnegotiable. I’ve always known where we were and where I wanted us to be in the future. Just as important is how we treat each other. I keep an open door, and I genuinely welcome feedback—that’s how we keep getting better.
Customer Appreciation
We’ve built our own method: a marriage of classical, athletic and joint-friendly reformer work, now with gentle plyometrics and cardio layered in through our Jump classes. Clients love that they don’t have to choose; it’s all here under one roof and one membership. You simply don’t get the same connection and intimacy at a big gym that you feel in a small studio that knows your name.

New & Exciting
Our new patented reformers have officially landed in the studios, and we just launched JumpStart—a quick, addictive hit of cardio. We’re rolling out two more formats: a full Jump class and Classic Rock, an old-school nod to Joseph Pilates. We’re in negotiations on another location in Santa Monica, so the map is about to get bigger.
Growth & Longevity
I attribute our growth to an unbelievable team: managers, instructors and front desk staff who care as much as I do. And our incredibly loyal clients and the community we’ve built together over the years. They show up, they cheer each other on, and they’ve made RockIt feel like home. I’ve never been good at walking away from something once I’ve set my mind to it, and I’ve surrounded myself with people who bring that same tenacity every single day.
Southbay Love
Jen Turquand, Southbay’s publisher, has taken more than 90 classes at our Redondo studio. She’s gotten so strong. Knowing what a hard worker Jen is and what our workout does for people, I’m not surprised at all—just proud.
