As I entered my 40s, I noticed some unexpected changes. My body wasn’t responding to workouts like it had, I couldn’t sleep through the night, my inner ears constantly itched (a lesser-known symptom of perimenopause), and I felt increasingly on edge. I went to my doctor but left feeling dismissed and without answers.

So I dove into the research and realized I was in perimenopause. I shared what I’d learned with friends and family, and they wanted to know everything. That’s when it hit me: Women in midlife are drastically underserved. Despite spending four years in medical school, I’d received zero training on menopause.

I decided to do something about it and became a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner. Today I run a private practice focused entirely on women’s midlife health because women deserve care that’s informed, personalized and long overdue.

Building Trust

So many women feel unheard by their health care providers, and that’s a huge miss when it comes to building trust and creating an effective treatment plan. Too often, care becomes a one-sided directive: “My doctor told me to do this,” instead of a true collaboration between doctor and patient.

That’s why every new patient visit starts with a full one-hour consultation to tell me their story—symptoms, history, lifestyle, family context. We work together to determine what treatment options make the most sense. I also have check-ins for the first several months so we can make adjustments. This isn’t a “prescribe and disappear” approach. It’s a partnership built on communication, responsiveness and shared decision-making.

Tailored, Supportive Treatment

My patients don’t get one-size-fits-all protocols or vague advice; they get tailored hormone therapy plans, comprehensive lab testing, nutrition and body composition assessments, and proactive strategies that are specific to their symptoms, goals and lifestyle. We focus on real-life functionality in real time: improving sleep, stabilizing mood, reducing brain fog, building muscle and supporting sexual wellness—because these aren’t “just menopause symptoms.” They are everyday quality-of-life issues that deserve real solutions.

Another key benefit to my practice is access and continuity. My patients don’t wait weeks for a response or feel dismissed after a five-minute visit. We build relationships over time through longer appointments, regular check-ins and ongoing communication. That sense of support and trust makes all the difference.

Patient Story

One patient, who generously gave me permission to share her story, was an avid runner but started noticing changes. Her body felt foreign, and she felt constantly angry. She started forgetting simple things, and she hadn’t had a good night’s sleep in months. She told me she felt completely disconnected from herself.

We ordered a DEXA scan and ran a full lab panel. We then increased her estrogen and added testosterone. She also made intentional lifestyle changes: upping her protein intake, lifting weights regularly and dialing in her recovery. Within a few months, she was sleeping through the night and feeling more grounded. Her workouts felt productive again, and—most importantly—she began to feel like herself. Today she’s back to running and is working toward her master’s degree. Watching her reclaim her energy, focus and confidence has been incredibly rewarding.

Community Favorites

My girlfriends and I love Fishing With Dynamite in Manhattan Beach and The Rex in Redondo Beach. My husband and I just joined the California Surf Club and are so excited to see what’s next for them. I have been receiving treatment from Dr. Annie Chiu at The Derm Institute for years, and I cannot recommend her and her staff enough. My workout go-tos are KIS Training Studios for strength training and SoHo Yoga.
