Kimm Dunne started her career working in women’s retail and was transferred to Los Angeles to grow the West Coast region. While attending school for merchandising and management, she studied both fashion and interiors. After starting a family, she was ready to travel less and started working in sales at the Ann Sacks tile and stone showroom. Kimm opened Details Tile and Stone Studio in 2018.

What inspired you to pursue a career in your field?

I have always loved working in any medium with color and pattern. Working in the clothing industry for so many years, I was forecasting color trends and creating the next best look. So when I was remodeling a bathroom in our first home, I walked into the L.A. showroom of Ann Sacks and was so inspired, I knew that tile and stone were going to be in my future.

What does success mean to you?

I equate success with happiness. If my clients and team are happy, I feel successful. I feel so fortunate and thankful to live and work in the South Bay and feel such a part of this community.

Tell us about your business.

I started this business years ago without any advertising, social media or a website. I always thought it would just be myself and my assistant—a few clients with good repeat business and a job well done. Word spread, and now we have a beautiful showroom, a full team and our own local warehouse to receive and inspect each order.

Being a small business owner can be challenging. I am fortunate to have the best team in this business. We work hard to make our client experience special and to curate a showroom that is merchandised differently than most. We display by color, which draws customers into their comfort zones.

Not only do we assist with design and selections, we also assist in layout and all of the finishing touches. I love working with contractors and designers on-site (if necessary), making sure everything is complete and seamless. We specialize in everything that is a hard surface: tile, stone, wood flooring and slabs, including what is appropriate for pools and hardscapes.
