Whether it’s finding the ideal work-life balance away from looming deadlines, carpool duties and after-school sports schedules or devoting time to take in nature and connecting with friends and family, there’s no better time to prioritize self-care.

Originally opened in 2009, the oceanfront Spa at Terranea recently unveiled a $4.5 million renovation featuring a new lobby awash in calming creams and blues, a striking dual-sided fireplace adorned with Moroccan zellige tile and a granite reception desk. The upgraded spa also features a dreamy relaxation lounge with coastal-inspired wallpaper and 180º swivel club chairs for breathtaking ocean views, and a co-ed relaxation room equipped with high-tech adjustable ergonomic Evo Loungers from Gharieni in Germany.

“The transformation of the spa goes far beyond aesthetics. It’s about creating a holistic experience that feels both luxurious and intentional,” says spa director Cynthia Howell. “It now truly brings the ocean landscape into the spa. The natural textures, color palette and flow of the space connect guests to the coastal environment in a way that feels calming and restorative. It’s serene, sophisticated and deeply inspired by nature. Our new treatment tables and equipment prioritize comfort, while the updated furniture brings warmth and elegance to every space. Eco-friendly toiletries and sustainable materials reflect our commitment to wellness that’s mindful of the environment.”

Masterminded by Los Angeles–based firm RVD Associates, which also worked on the renovation of Fairmont Breakers Long Beach and Awana Spa in Las Vegas, the remodel includes refreshed locker rooms, an expansive outdoor patio with updated furnishings and recanvassed cabanas, and a 5,000-square-foot fitness center with updated equipment spanning nine TRM treadmills, two Peloton bikes and a Peloton rowing machine.

“Each design choice was made to encourage guests to slow down, breathe and reconnect,” adds Cynthia. “My goal is for guests to leave not just feeling pampered but genuinely restored, carrying that sense of calm with them long after they leave.”`
