Originally recruited by Hughes Aircraft, Jane Sager moved to the South Bay from Kansas, earned a master’s degree in engineering and worked for a decade in electrical engineering. She transitioned to real estate 37 years ago, which opened the door to the most meaningful parts of her life. She met her dearest friends, found her husband through a client referral and even discovered her dog during an open house!
Jane has been recognized among the top 1% of agents nationwide by Estate Properties and featured by the Los Angeles Business Journal. She has personally made 11 moves—each one carefully chosen for its potential as a property she could improve, and each one a little closer to the beach. This experience has given her valuable insight to share with clients.
Tell us about your work.
I help families build smart strategies that grow with them, whether that results in future income or a move from one property to something that better fits their changing needs. For most, the path to their dream home isn’t a straight line. Often it takes a few strategic steps, and I’m there to help. My own moves taught me how to recognize value, opportunity and the power of vision, which I now share with my clients. I’m deeply grateful for this profession. Helping clients shape a plan, build equity and ultimately land in a home that feels like their dream come true is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.
Who do clients work with on your team?
My clients work directly with me. While I have a sharp, efficient crew behind the scenes, I’m personally involved in every detail from start to finish. Unlike team-based models, I never hand clients off. My approach is deeply personal, hands-on and entirely focused on delivering the highest level of individual attention.
That connection doesn’t end when the sale closes. I stay in touch long after the keys are handed over, whether it’s checking in, offering advice on a renovation or helping their kids find their first home years later. Most of my business comes by referral, and I’m honored that clients trust me enough to recommend me to their friends and family.
What is important to you about your work?
My own family is small, so I treasure the deep connections I build with clients and value becoming part of their extended family. During COVID-19, I helped a family sell their Tree Section home and move to Maine. We became incredibly close, and I’ve been by their side through several more milestones since. When their beloved mother passed, we honored her with a quiet farewell at sea. That kind of trust and closeness is everything to me.
What do you expect to see in Southern California real estate this year?
In the South Bay, conditions are shifting. Today’s environment rewards preparation, discretion and precision. I’m focused on story-driven marketing that emotionally connects with buyers, and negotiating with clarity and conviction. A client recently told me, “I wouldn’t want to be sitting across from you at the negotiation table”—and today that strategy is crucial.
What is the most bizarre request you’ve received from a client?
Once a seller asked if I could help interested buyers “fall in love with our beach lifestyle.” So I hosted a sunset dinner in the home with the family, and afterward they walked to the beach for a spontaneous midnight swim! The next morning we had an offer and the home was sold.
What do you and your family enjoy doing?
Coming from the middle of the country, I’ve always been drawn to the ocean. My husband is from Naples and has the same passion. Whenever we can, we take friends out on our boat, The Plain Jane. To be on the water with our stunning coastline and hundreds of dolphins dancing alongside is a dream I never imagined would come true. We love the simple joys of beach life—walking to downtown shops, riding our bikes to dinner with friends and strolling The Strand with our dog.
Tell us about your own home.
I had the privilege of creating our dream home—a sanctuary on the water’s edge. Once inside, the backdrop is soothing and focused entirely on the views. I love the bronze fireplace in the kitchen, a spot where everyone gathers. It pulls people in and creates a unique but comfortable feel. And then there’s Sammy, our vintage sea lion fountain from the San Francisco Bay circa 1957. The neighborhood kids love him, and so do I!
