Paige Negrete

South Bay Sprouts started as an in-home mobile gymnastics program in 2020 with one goal: to grow kids through movement. Owner Paige Negrete wanted to encourage students to get outside and be active. Since then, the program has expanded into its Redondo Beach studio space and has partnered with local schools, daycares, and parks and recreation programs. Classes are geared toward kids ages 2½ to 12, and private and group lessons are available for all ages.      Paige trained as a gymnast from age 3 to 15 in both recreational and competitive programs. After completing high school, she jumped into the coaching side of the sport.

What inspired you to pursue a career in your field?

For as long as I can remember, I have loved two things: kiddos and cartwheels. I found the perfect blend of both when I began coaching gymnastics eight years ago. I’m continuously inspired by all the kids who walk through our doors—their infectious energy, their eagerness to learn and their courageous nature. Being a part of their journey as they grow, both physically and mentally, is abundantly rewarding.

What advice would you give your younger self just starting out in business?

“Be kind. Be conscious. Be unconventional.” When I was launching my mobile program, I spent a lot of time and energy searching for a North Star—another business, entrepreneur or course to tell me what South Bay Sprouts should look like. Once I began to trust my intuition and methods, a bounty of new, authentic connections serendipitously found me. Since this shift, I’ve continued to seek unique and creative solutions that best serve our gymnasts and their families.

What motivates you to go to work every day?

Oh, there’s a lot that keeps me bouncing into the studio each day! If I had to choose one, it’s getting to be a part of our gymnasts’ week. Taking a “small-batch” approach gives us an opportunity to know and understand our kiddos’ aspirations, strengths and even apprehensions. We believe that creating a safe space for kids to enjoy and explore movement will foster a lifelong affinity for wellness and exercise. Cheering them on along the way is a huge source of motivation.
