Morgan’s Jewelers is a family-owned jewelry store that has served the South Bay for more than 80 years. The store offers everyday jewelry, meaningful heirloom pieces, on-site jewelry and watch repair, appraisals and custom design. Third-generation family member Melissa Varon Weinberg officially joined the business in 2004 after helping at the store while she was growing up. Manager Thess Duong has worked at Morgan’s since 2010 and in the fine jewelry industry for 25 years.

What are the top traits that make a great business leader?

To be a great leader, one must maintain a clear vision, achieve high emotional intelligence and genuinely care about the people around them. In a family business especially, leadership is about creating an environment where your team feels valued and empowered while staying true to the core ideals that the business was built upon.

In what ways do you stand out in your market?

Melissa: What truly sets Morgan’s Jewelers apart is the combination of our history, expertise and the personal relationships we build with our clients. My grandparents founded Morgan’s in 1946, and for 80 years our family has had the privilege of being part of some of the most meaningful moments in our clients’ lives. But ultimately, what differentiates us isn’t simply what we sell; it’s the trust we’ve earned in our community over those three generations.

We offer the selection, expertise and service you would expect from a luxury jeweler, along with the warmth and personal attention of a family-owned business.

From fine jewelry and timepieces to bridal, custom design, repairs, and appraisals, we offer a truly full-service experience under one roof. Our clients know that when they walk through our doors, they will receive honest guidance, genuine expertise without it ever feeling intimidating or impersonal, and a level of care that continues long after the purchase.

Tell us about your team.

We are incredibly lucky to work alongside multiple generations, personalities and perspectives that bring different ideas and energy, and a team that truly feels like an extension of our family. We work hard, laugh a lot, support one another and genuinely enjoy what we do. There’s a real sense of connection here, and that’s what makes Morgan’s Jewelers such a special place to work and to be a part of.

Describe your dream client.

Thess: Our dream client is someone who has an appreciation for beautiful things but understands that true luxury is about more than a name or a price tag. They value exceptional craftsmanship, quality, individuality and pieces that have meaning. They’re curious and engaged. They enjoy discovering something they haven’t seen before, learning the story behind a piece, trying on something unexpected or working with us to create something entirely their own. They appreciate expert guidance but ultimately want jewelry that feels personal and reflects who they are.

Most of all, our dream client values relationships. They want a jeweler who gets to know their taste, understands what matters to them and is there for all of the moments. At Morgan’s, we want you to feel like you have a jeweler in the family—someone you can call when you need us, whether you’re looking for something extraordinary or just need your favorite piece repaired.

Speak about the importance of community and how it’s impacted your business journey.

The South Bay isn’t simply where we do business; it’s our home. This community has supported Morgan’s Jewelers for generations, and that has created a connection and sense of responsibility that goes far beyond the walls of our store. Our clients are our neighbors, our friends and the families we see at schools, restaurants, local events and throughout our everyday lives. We have the privilege of celebrating their most meaningful moments with them, and in turn they have allowed Morgan’s to become part of the fabric of this community.

That relationship means everything to us. We feel a responsibility to give back, through organizations and fundraisers, to show up and to support the community that has supported our family for so many years. Our greatest hope is that Morgan’s Jewelers continues to be more than a jewelry store, that it remains a South Bay institution people are proud to call their own.
